What do you like about Hamilton?
The diversity of the city, the friendly nature of every Hamiltonian I’ve come across and their willingness to always help!
What is your favorite thing to do here? What is your favorite place?
I enjoy discovering the many hidden gems Hamilton holds. Between you and me, I’ve found the best ice-cream in town! A small shop on duke street called Hewitt’s Big Scoop, delicious!
Tell us one thing that people may not know about you?
I was born and raised in Scotland, in a small town called Greenock but you’d never guess from my accent.
My Scottish accent only makes a miraculous appearance when I’m speaking with my siblings.
What do you do and what are your aspirations?
I am a recent marketing graduate and I aspire to do good, to be of help, to bring happiness and prosperity to people in whatever career path I choose to pursue in life.
What is your message to other newcomers that are coming to Hamilton? Any advice?
Naturally, coming to a new place requires some getting used to. Take your time to adjust and learn the way things are done here. Volunteering is a great way to make friends and give back to your community.
Network, network, network! Meet the people in the community you now call home, you never know who you’ll meet or who they know.
If you’re ever unsure about something, ask! Take the first step and you’ll find people are always willing to help you cross the finish line.
Tell us your story
I moved to Hamilton in the start of 2017 and had a huge support system of family and friends here before me. I also made great use of the many facilities and services available for newcomers.
The Workplace Preparation Program (WPP) at Mohawk College is a course I recommend to any newcomer in Hamilton looking to join the workforce here in Canada.
